since we're over a year into the war, i'm really curious what those of us who engaged in sometimes heated discussion about the war think now.
tonight, i watched the nighly news and had to throw away the majority of my dinner because of the horrific images i saw. since i mainly listen to talk radio and read articles on the internet, i haven't really been subjected to these images. but in about 15 minutes, i went from being generally pissed off about bush and his ineffective and unnecessary wars to being basically scared. the footage from the battles are seriously scary. they showed these bloodied american troops trying to crawl out of a tank that had been bombed. these aren't just the "muslim extremists" that fox news wants you to think they are. these are families that are pissed off that their houses are getting bombed and their kids are getting killed. things are heating up, big time and we have no exit strategy. this is what makes me scared.
since the weekend, the US has lost over 40 troops. that doesn't include troops that were killed today. in fallujah, 300 iraqi's have been killed and another 400 injured. the US has also bombed and destroyed two mosques. of course, there were people in these mosques.
i guess i had mainly been paying attention to the 9-11 hearings and hadn't really payed attention to iraq lately.
i didn't really share any of my opinions regarding the war, i guess. i'm more interested in hearing what all of you think. since the war in iraq started, bush has admitted that hussein had nothing to do with 9-11 and no weapons of mass destruction have been found.
what do you think? and reply, bastards, seriously.

|that goes without saying
another productive weekend.
i won't bother with yesterday's details as they are on tawny's lj.
today, we went whale-watching. we left from the port and headed out into the ocean. i figure we ended up about 10 miles out, maybe straight out from magnolia st. in huntington. we were out there for nearly 3 hours and befriended a guy with cerebal palsy that knew way too much about boats and the long beach harbor. i swear, anyone with a disability must be able to smell it on me that i work with similar folks. it happens all the time. oh yeah, we didn't see any whales. we saw a few dolphins and 5 or 6 sea lions.
after that, we went to fingerprints. i didn't really see anything worth buying. tawny bought the reuben's accomplice cd. i don't dig it too much. i dig parts of songs, but it just doesn't click for me. after i stepped outside a scooter gang of about 15 roared past . that fuled my urge to get ahold of my former supervisor because her ex-husband has two new vespas sitting in her garage that have never been used. she said she's sure he doesn't want them.
the weekend is over. and don't bother with that secret window movie. i love john turturo, but in my opinion, that blew.

if you want to listen to air america, but can't get it through the airwaves, you can listen to it on their website. i don't remember the addres. search it yourself, lazy bastards.
i had to get x-rays today because my neck has been stiff for a month now. the x-ray guy put this radiation blocking thing around my waist.
me - "is this to protect my nuts?"
him - "actually, yes"

|a good day
i had a fairly crummy day, and i when i got home, i was delighted to find out the liberal radio network air america
started today. any californians that want a breath of fresh talk radio air, 1580 am. hosts include chuck d, al franken, and janeane garofalo. al franken named his show: "the o'franken factor". classic!

tonight, we got our tickets to the chain reaction show of the braid reunion tour. i'm pretty excited about that. i just bought the braid video a few weeks ago in arizona.
now for a few pictures of keelin in the snow:
*wow, sorry they're so big. i'm so clueless*
|Sunday, March 28th, 2004|
this is a picture of my brother, krissi and keelin. they are coming here on april 16th.
i don't think we're on america's funniest home videos again tonight. i guess we missed it.
i thought i had a good entry's worth of thoughts saved up, but i don't really feel like getting into it all. in summary, on friday, i had an epiphany (i'm not sure i know how to use that word) and realized i am really happy that i work with disabled folks. it was the best day of work in a long time.
on saturday, we went to the long beach aquarium. i'm a fast reader and observer and i hate being around a crowd at places like that, so while i waited for tawny to finish with each exhibit, i found myself drawn to a group of people with disabilities. i found myself trying to help them walk down stairs and whatnot.
jacob and i planted our garden today. it looks kind of bare right now, but hopefully it will soon flourish. we didn't really know how to plant flowers, so we just picked whatever looked cool.
oh yeah, and last night i got called a "high school pot smoker".
|Monday, March 22nd, 2004|
my hometown of moline, illinois made the national news twice in the last week. if you heard about britney spears hurting herself and cancelling a show...she got hurt in moline. also last week, moline set the world record for the most people sitting on whoopee cushions at once.
i got my cubs/angels tickets in the mail today. i ordered 4. i got two tickets. and they had the name "nicole christopher, aliso viejo" printed on them. that's not me.

|lost on your merry way
well, our america's funniest home videos episode wasn't on tonight. i guess i don't know when it will be on. sorry if you wasted any time watching it.
|reach for the sun
saw eternal sunshine last night. brilliant, in my opinion. i'd like to go see it again.
watch america's funniest home videos tonight to maybe see tawny, jacob and myself. i think it's on abc. check your local listing for the time. by the way, the kid that wins looks like a younger version of my brother when his hair is longer.

well, my st. patrick's day extravaganza is over.
tawny and i woke up at 2:50am and we headed down to dublin's on sunset in hollywood to see the dropkick murphy's. i still can't believe i got to see them on st. patrick's day. it was definitely an experience. it's odd to go to a show that starts at 6am. it's also weird to chug a guiness at 6:30am. it was super packed and painfully loud, but those irish boys played it like it should be on this glorious day.
a poor camera-phone picture of the dropkick murphy's bagpipe player:
after this, we headed to the los angeles parade. the parade blew, but the police on motorcycles did the most awesome display i'd ever seen. i can't really describe it on here...but imagine the blue angels on motorcycles. i was convinced we'd see some bloodshed from a horrendous accident. we went to bj's in seal beach for a quick lunch. big news, here...i saw the vampire (aka lord marqual)!! a few of you will understand the insanity of this. we headed over to o'malley's to get another guiness and watched awesome old irish men dressed crazily getting kissed by fake boobed whores. at this point, we were pretty tired, so we came home for a quick nap. we slept for a few hours and got up and headed over to silky sullivan's. this is the irish bar where i watch notre dame football. the line was ridiculous, so we went to norm's.
it was a great day and i'm really glad i took the day off. i'm already making plans for march 17, 2005.

|well you say i'm irish...but i'm not a leprechaun
the weekend was nice. it was great to see arizona faces. you all were lovely. i'd spend more time on the topic, but i'm too excited about st. patrick's day.
i figured it would be dumb of me to waste a vacation day on st. patrick's day. i used a borrowed cheesy line and used it on my boss. "i'll have a vision problem on Wednesday because i can't see myself coming to work". she asked me what Wednesday was after the initial shock of her ignorance, i informed her that it is st. patrick's day. she told me to go ahead and take the day off work if i wanted to, but i told her i'd rather not waste a vacation day. she said "shoot, you don't get paid enough, just take the day off, say you worked and make up the time sometime in the next month". so i came home as giddy as a school girl and jacob said "my boss told me i could have Wednesday off if i wanted". so i knew it was meant to be. we'll find out tomorrow if tawny can go, too.our st. patrick's day agenda
*wake up and leave home by 3am to stand in line at dublin's
on sunset to see the dropkick murphy's play a 6am show.
*$25 shamrock tattoos across the street.
*st. patrick's day parade.
*hopefully i'll win an indie 103.1 contest and we'll get to see flogging molly play a private show at the key club at 11am.
*a good irish breakfast somewhere between the twopubs that we may enjoy, in no particular order
*limerick's (long beach)
*hennessey's (seal beach)
*o'malley's (seal beach) - they have live bagpipers all day.
*irish mist (sunset beach) - irish music and dancers from 2pm-5pm
*the shamrock (newport beach) - irish music
those are just the orange county bars. i'd like to find out what some of the LA county irish bars are doing.
so that's the plan. anyone who wants to join us, you're more than welcome.

i guess we're taking a trip to arizona this weekend.
my brother called me today - "do you care if we come out there next week?"
i suppose spur-of-the-moment trips run in the family.
a lady at work was telling me that she works two jobs. she also has a night job at a group home. so after she leaves our work, she goes there, and is there until the next morning when she comes back to our work. she told me she hasn't been to her house since january 17th. i don't want to live somewhere that this kind of work schedule is necessary to survive.
today i had to go to a meeting about epilepsy. they showed us videos of people having seizures. it was horrifying to see some of that stuff. i know it doesn't sound gross, but to see a completely normal person suddenly lose control of their body is really disturbing. there is one kind of seizure where the person just loses all muscle control and collapses. when they collapse, they kind of double over because their head is heaviest and they basically crash and land on their head. it was torture to watch. the meeting was interesting though. i definitely know more about epiliepsy now. it was really interesting to watch someone have a long seizure and be able to track where in their brain the seizure was and moved to by the changes of their body movements.
i bought angels/cubs tickets for the series here in june.
i've had a stiff neck for a week now and it keeps getting worse. maybe it's menengitis.
tawny and i watched another movie from my childhood that is my favorite disney movie of all time. is anyone familiar with the movie toby tyler
st patty's day will soon be upon us.

|sex and responsibility
well, tomorrow i have to do my first act of management. i have to write a guy up for sexual harassment. i don't think he was meaning to harass, but rules are rules. sexual harassment rules are not ones i'm willing to overlook. the worst thing is that i found the "harassment", so i'm the one complaining and the one disciplining...so i doubt the dude will dig me too much now. basically, i found a picture taped to the 'fridge with a mildly offensive thing written on it.
ok. since california had the primary tonight, i can offically start my political ranting until the first tuesday after the first monday in november. i know i do all the time, but now it's justified.
voting isn't your civic duty. researching the issues, candidates, and referendums THEN voting is your civic duty. voting without doing that is irresponsible. if you don't know the issues, don't vote.
did anyone vote for kucinich for me? he lasted longer than edwards! ha.
i was so excited to vote today. it was to be the first time i truly voted my conscience. this is sad, but i actually had a dream last night about voting. as soon as i woke up this morning, however, i had a hunch i wouldn't be able to cast my vote. i grabbed my voter information thing i got in the mail, and sure enough, i can't vote. when i moved to california, i registered with the american independent party. the guy that registered me told me if i registered independent, i could vote in any primary. obviously, you can usually only vote in the democratic primary if you are a registered democrat. so i registered independent that way i could attempt to screw over the republican party like people attempted to do in 2000 when all the democrats that were registered independent went out and voted for john mccain to try to avoid a gw bush administration. imagine that, some of us saw the shitstorm coming four years ago.
anyway, i was misinformed and only voters registered democrat can vote in the democrat primary. you wouldn't believe how crummy i've felt all day about it. this is the first election since i turned 18 that i'm not voting. anyway, it ruined my day.
a registered democrat that didn't plan on voting today could really make my day by going out and casting a vote for mr. kucinich.
